| The
Sheinton Heritage Group
The Sheinton Heritage Group was founded in January 2004 by a group of local
people to promote an interest in the rich heritage of Sheinton and the surrounding
area. In July it was successful in obtaining a Local Heritage Initiative grant
for the Sheinton Heritage Project.
From the funding received the group will lead a variety of community activities
over the next two years. These will include studies of the geology, geography,
archaeology, history and ecology of the area and the publication of a book on
what is discovered.
Sheinton
Sheinton is a small rural parish and village in mid-Shropshire. It is situated
on the south bank of the River Severn opposite that famous Shropshire landmark
the Wrekin. It is surrounded by a cluster of rural parishes nine of which have
been the subject of a historical study as the Cressage Area Research Project.
In order to set Sheinton within its local landscape the area to be studied
is now being extended to include the parishes of Buildwas, Leighton, Eaton Constantine
and Wroxeter situated along the northern bank of the river.
