The Sheinton Heritage Group
For the period July 2004 to June 2006 the Project is being funded by a Local Heritage Initiative grant. As this has been granted for the benefit of local communities most events being organised will be free.

In order to set Sheinton within it's local landscape the area being studied includes fourteen parishes, those that were covered on the south side of the River Severn by the Cressage Area Research Project plus Buildwas, Leighton, Eaton Constantine and Wroxeter on the north bank of the river.

To launch our project a number of events have been held. These included guided geology walks; displays at the “Your History Day” in Shrewsbury organised by the Friends of Shropshire Archives, Sheinton Fete, & Wenlock Museum.

Other events included, a members get-together and exhibition in Sheinton Church; a lecture entitled 'A Snapshot in Time' on the manorial map of the area created in 1747 for John Newport by the famous map-maker John Rocque and a lecture on 'The Historical Landscape of The Severn Valley from Atcham to Buildwas - The Bronze Age to the 16th century'.

Also in conjunction with the Cressage Area Research Project four editions of The Sheinton Journal have been published during the past year with articles on topics such as:

The case of the Moving Rectory and Missing Manor House;

Was Shinewood a separate manor? What was 'Open-Field' husbandry;

The Revolting Duke; Sheinton's Church Bells; Sheinton School

When Sheinton beat Ironbridge with its iron-making; Building the railway

Crossing the River at Cressage; A 1940's Christmas in Sheinton

What happened to the great doorway into Buildwas Abbey?
