Forthcoming Events
12th-14th July 2008. Venue: Sheinton Church

Friends of Sheinton

National Archaeology Week

Coordinated by the Council for British Archaeology

12th to 20th July 2008

We have been offered the chance to take part in this event the purpose of which is to ‘Encourage everyone, especially young people and their families, to visit sites of archaeological/historical interest or museums/heritage and resource centres, to see archaeology in action and take part in activities on site.’

We have decided to take part with an exhibition which will get maximum coverage in the media and be advertised at Tourist Information Centres etc etc. It would be a good chance for the Friends of Sheinton to support an event. The proposal is for: An Exhibition of the Archaeology & Local History of Sheinton

Saturday 12th to Monday 14th July

in Sheinton Church

Open daily 10-30 am to 4-30 pm

Apart from the display we may be able to organise some hands-on activities such as searching for pottery in trays of sand, or metal detecting. Margaret and I are prepared to organise the display. However we will need some help to man the exhibit and we would like to know who are prepared to help so that we do not need to be on duty all day for three days!

We have checked with Revd Judy that the church is free for us to use but as time was pressing I have had to register the event without contacting you first. It will not get in the national booklet but will be advertised locally and on the CBA website. A few Shropshire events are already shown on their web-page www.nationalarchaeologyweek.org.uk we hope ours will be on soon. We do hope that some of you will be prepared to help us with this event in which we should be able to sell more Sheinton Books as well as keep this fascinating village in the public eye. The latest finds included some Saxon pot!!!!

Re a suggested visit

A number of folk have already expressed an interest in a guided tour of the town of Ellesmere. We suggest a Saturday in August. Can you let us know which Saturday would be most convenient for you.

Trevor & Margaret.
